The Making of a Chic Seaside Theme Embroidered Veil.

What does it mean if I’ve started talking to my embroideries? You’ll see a little seahorse friend featured in this blog, and I found myself talking to the drawing just before I was about to stitch him, saying “you’re about to become a real seahorse little guy”…

Just call me Geppetto!

Anyway, moving swiftly on.

Amy was getting married to Jack at Nunwell house on the Isle of Wight, and she dreamed of a chic seaside themed veil to represent the island which holds a special place in her heart.

Amy and Jack already had a sophisticated crest designed for them, and this was to be included in the veil design along with their wedding date. This crest design was used throughout their wedding so it was such a special touch to include it in the veil.

I started sketching and creating embroidery swatches of shells, coral, seaweed and of course, my little seahorse. I tried ALOT of corals to find the beautiful shapes without the spiky ones looking too harsh and I was so happy with the final result.

After some experimenting I decided to create this veil on my freehand Juki embroidery machine, particularly for the coral which screamed out to be made with a lustrous satin stitch (which is the stitch I can create on my Juki).

I developed a full artwork with the coral floating up from behind the shells, travelling around the bottom edge of the veil and lightly trickling off at the sides to frame Amy’s custom Suzanne Neville dress. All centred around the beautiful monogram in the lower middle of the veil with their wedding date nestled below.

To really maximise the island look, we went for a deep embroidered scallop edging which Amy rocked SO well. All on my delicate signature ivory tulle.

The finishing touch on the final embroidered veil was an iridescent pearl stitched in to the Oyster. I tested several sizes and decided that, on this occasion, bigger was better!

I also made a few special extras for Amy, including monogrammed bouquet ribbons for her bridesmaids, embroidered handkerchiefs as gifts for her loved ones, and a silk hair bow with her new married name to wear the next day!

I just love the personal touches that bridal embroidery can create, and Amy is a girl after my own heart with these special meaningful details.

Love,

Hannah x
